Adrian Independent School District 511

Adrian Independent School District 511 is once again a blessed recipient of a grant award from the Worthington Regional Health Care Foundation, Inc.! 

In 2021, the district received $15,000 toward the weight room project which was completed in the summer of 2021.  With that grant, the district had a desire to build a culture supporting strength and conditioning for lifelong wellness.  We are pleased to see our physical education classes, athletic programs, and after school student use in full swing utilizing the weight room and TeamBuilder app for detailed workout programs.

This year, the administrative team (Cate Koehne, Randy Schettler, and Molly Schilling) working with Mr. Jordan Pater (elementary counselor) and Mrs. Sharyn Story (MS/HS counselor) and other staff members analyzed the needs of our student body that reach beyond academic support.  The result was a focused need to reinvigorate our efforts to support students both in and out of school to be happy, engaged, cared for, and on the path to success.  The district applied for a grant to support social emotional learning efforts which includes portions of our positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) programs at both buildings and a new backpack program. Jordan Pater has done the majority of the legwork to start a backpack program to further support families who may need a little extra help making nutrition ends meet over the weekends.  With this grant money to get it started, the backpack program should be able to start in the fall of 2022.

The awarded grant amount is $23,175. Some of this money has already been spent on guest speakers in both buildings.  On February 18, 2022, the elementary students were visited by author, counselor and parenting expert, Julia Cook.  The staff was able to engage in professional learning in the afternoon with Julia on what she calls “GPS (good people skills) instead of SEL.”  On February 24, 2022, the MS/HS students worked in small groups with Tom Cody from Top 20 Training. The staff has previously worked with Tom Cody as well as a group of students involved in student council and NHS on September 1, 2021.  The advising groups have been learning and practicing skills from Top 20 on Wednesdays this year.  Top 20 Training’s purpose is to provide effective strategies and practices to develop potential, eliminate negativity, address challenges, and enhance the culture in schools, at home and in the workplace.
